Today, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid MP, announced that he has refused to overturn Wiltshire Council’s decision to deny planning permission for 350 homes at Coate Road in Devizes, because the proposed development does not conform to the Devizes Area Neighbourhood Plan.
This decision follows years of campaigning by many local people, led by Devizes Roundway Councillor Laura Mayes, who have worked so hard to develop such a robust Neighbourhood Plan, which has been ratified by local referendum.
Commenting on today’s news, Claire Perry said:
“After the years of uncertainty I am delighted that localism has prevailed, and planning permission has been refused on the Coate Road site as it conflicts with the carefully crafted Neighbourhood Plan. We have all fought hard for this outcome and I am so pleased with the result.”
