My Local Priorities

  • Back local businesses to create jobs

Small businesses are such a vital and vibrant part of Britain with a record 5.4 million small businesses in the UK, providing jobs for nearly 26 million people. The success of our economy is built on the hard work and determination of the people who run and work for them.

  • Support local Armed Forces families

I am proud to represent the Service families living locally, which is why I successfully campaigned for the pupil premium for Service children and secured £3 million of

  • See more children taught in 'Good' and 'Outstanding' schools

I want to ensure that more children locally are being taught in 'good' or 'outstanding' schools and I am delighted that almost all schools across the Constituency are now rated as such.  I have served as a school governor to two key local schools, supporting both through the Academy conversion process - with great success and I am pleased that continuing improvements will further lift local education standards and ensure that our young people have the skills that they need to succeed in life.

  • Protect Our Local Train Services

I know how important our local rail services are to people and businesses across the Constituency and I am working hard to ensure that our services are protected for the future.  I have thoroughly enjoyed working as the Rail Minister since I took the job last summer and I am very proud of this Government's record on our railways.  Rail travel has been put at the heart of the Conservatives' long term economic plan to secure our country's future.

  • Rapid rollout of Superfast Broadband

I know how important broadband is to both individuals and businesses across the Devizes Constituency. Reliable, fast broadband is now seen as the norm, not a nice-to-have. It underpins economic growth and allows homes to function in a digital age, and ensuring that Superfast Broadband is rolled out as quickly as possible across the Constituency is one of my the Six Local Priorities.
